Championship Meet Information

Championship Meet Progression...

Swimmers should attempt to qualify for the Mid Penn Conference Championship Meet. Swimmers must achieve a time in an event that seeds them among the top 32 times submitted by all teams in the Mid Penn Conference. Individual and relay entries will be submitted by the McDevitt coaches. Several factors will be considered in weighing the submission of entries for this meet, including but not limited to: likelihood a swimmer will make the "cut" and be seeded in the field of 32 swimmers, likelihood a swimmer will achieve entry in two events (thus maximizing their opportunity to achieve/lower times for two individual swims at District III Championship Meet), the swimmer's participation on a relay. Only times achieved at a sanctioned high school competition during the current season are eligible for entry.

If a swimmer does not qualify for the MPC Championship Meet, they will attend the Mid Penn Plunge Invite. Individual and relay entries will be submitted by the McDevitt coaches. Swimmers that compete in the MPC Championship Meet are ineligible to participate in the "Plunge".

Times from the MPC Championship Meet or the MP Plunge (plus any time achieved during the course of the current dual meet season) are considered eligible times for entry into the District III Championship Meet. Individual and relay entries will be submitted by the McDevitt coaches. A swimmers must achieve a time in an event that seeds them among the top 24 times submitted by all AA teams in PIAA District III.

Qualifying for the PIAA Swimming & Diving Championship

The PIAA recently voted unanimously to guarantee one automatic qualifier per event per district/sub‐region and the remaining slots, up to the 32nd seed, filled with fastest times from across the state. Also, a proposal to expand the number of relays from 24 to 32 teams (entries) was also approved.

Based on results from the District III Championship Meet, a minimum of one female for each individual event and one female relay team will automatically advance to the PIAA State Championship Meet. A minimum of one male in each individual event and one relay team will automatically advance to the PIAA State Championship Meet. In addition to the minimum number of individual and relay entries (qualifiers) per District or Region sponsoring a qualifying meet, an additional 16 individual swimming event entries (qualifiers) and an additional 8 relay event entries (qualifiers) will advance to the PIAA Swimming Championships based on the top times achieved at the PIAA District or Region qualifying meet, to provide for a maximum of 32 entries (qualifiers) in each individual swimming event and a maximum of 24 entries (qualifiers) in each relay event, respectively.
